Abstract

The management of bile duct injuries (BDIs) is a critical knowledge base for surgeons performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The first aspect is proper identification of when an injury has occurred. There are several methods of confirming the presence of an injury. Finally, repair of the biliary injury depends on the type and mechanism of injury. Surgeons must recognize their level of comfort with repair, and outcomes are better when patients are referred to high-volume centers with hepatobiliary teams.
