We present a skin-like multi-electrode array for in-vivo epidural electrical stimulation of the spinal cord. This is the first reported implantable electrode array using conductive PDMS as a material for stretchable conductive leads. This all-elastomeric technology provides high flexibility and stretchability to the implant, thus allowing the array to act as a second skin in close contact with the spinal cord. We also report preliminary results on the heuristic value of this novel technology to restore locomotion in rats with complete spinal cord inury. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
