Ischemic nephropathy is considered nowadays a frequently appearing disorder. It is usually due to stenotic lesions of renal arteries and results into renal failure. It is responsible for a great deal of terminal renal failure cases. At present, several non-invasive but fairly reliable diagnostic methods are available: Doppler ultrasonography, magnetic resonance angiography, spiral computed axial tomographic angiography etc. Kidney revascularization achieved by means of angioplasty (with or without putting in a stent) or through a surgical procedure improves renal function in many cases. Better opportunities for conservative treatment of renovascular disease exist also at present. They are applicable in cases where revascularization is not indicated.
