Abstract

Some aspects of solvent extraction chemistry in the field of nuclear technology are briefly reviewed. Applications of solvent extraction in actinide recovery and purification, radionuclide production, and reactor materials preparation are summarized. The need for new, more selective, solvent extraction reagents is presented via examples of recent work with bifunctional organophosphorus reagents applied to the removal of actinides from acidic radioactive waste solutions. © 1986 IUPAC
