It is well-known from experience that weather and climatic changes influence the health of people in general (1, 5) and particularly health of the already frail populations (2, 3, 4, 6, 7), but it is not known whether one factor or a combination of factors play the decisive role. It is also not yet clear whether it is the absolute level of key meteorological parameters or the speed at which they change which influences people's health. © World Health Organization 2005.
