Abstract

Know the indications and contraindications of noninvasive ventilation. Understand the physiologic effects of noninvasive ventilation. Know how to apply different techniques of noninvasive ventilation, that is, negative pressure vs. positive pressure ventilation. Understand the relative advantages and disadvantages of different types of patient-ventilator interfaces during noninvasive ventilation. Review the evidence of the use of noninvasive ventilation in specific disease categories.
