In general this book concentrates on how the heat gets out - it deals with heat and mass transfer in lithothermal and hydrothermal systems deriving their energy from a vigorously convecting mantle, with emphasis on the mechanisms by which energy is delivered to the surface. The author has sought to bridge the gap between large-scale volcanic and small scale hydrothermal systems, and provides evidence for considering these apparently very different kinds of system together.
