Abstract

This chapter proposes a new and efficient heuristic algorithm to solve the problem of hierarchical production of lumber in sawmills. The proposed solution is based on Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP), using Benders’ decomposition and Lagrangian relaxation techniques. The proposed methodology achieves a higher computational efficiency than the state of the art for the solution of this kind of problems.
