Abstract

Chapter 4 seeks an answer to a crucial question: even if a bureaucrat by the name of Naim did indeed write these memoirs, is not still possible that the events of which he speaks are his own concoctions? Corroboration of names and events mentioned by Naim Efendi are found in Ottoman archival documents and described in detail.
