Abstract

Eliot Higgins will look at the use of geolocation as part of the verification process. Higgins will give examples from across the world and on a range of topics that combine the use of various online sources, including Google Earth, Google Street View, Panoramio, Yomapic, and more. This will lead to examples of where images verified through geolocation have played a part in larger investigations on topics including Russia’s bombing of Syria, and the downing of flight MH17 in Ukraine.
