Reviews the book Love, Jean: Inspiration for Families Living With Dysfunction of Sensory Integration, by A. Jean Ayres, Philip R. Erwin, and Zoe Mailloux (2004). This book is a compilation of letters written by Jean Ayres between 1975 and 1983, to her teenaged nephew Erwin, who was dealing with a combination of challenges that included adolescence, learning difficulties in math, sensory integration dysfunction, and adults unfamiliar with the latter two problems. The book poignantly conveys the far-reaching consequences of these difficulties. The book presents an engaging juxtaposition of Erwin's early experiences, Ayres' empathetic responses, and Mailloux's commentary clarifying sensory integration theory for readers new to this subject.
