This article discuss the discipline practices related to body and moral punishments that persisted for a long time in the Brazilian educational history. Bibliographical and documental research was conducted, using authors as Veiga, Elias, and others, and normative documentation expressed in law for analysis. Aiming at reflecting about the discipline practices used in education, we point the contributions of human rights educational policies for humanizing the subjects. We approach the human rights field in this text, seeking to comprehend public policies that value the dignity of young people and children. The history of physical punishments applied at schools and other institutions is marked by the disrespect for students dignity, by authoritarian practices and behaviors and by judgment policies. A culture of peace and solidarity in the educational spaces must be pursued.
