Abstract

Proposal of a theoretical and methodological framework for analyzing the specificities of agricultural and rural development. This proposal is called farming styles and part from the recognition that agriculture is a heterogeneous activity because "it is practised by actors who embody different interests, are part of diverse networks and share particular cultural repertoires". It is constructed based in three theoretical approaches about agrarian change that are: 1. Anthropology and Cultural basis of Agriculture (agricultural anthropology): Focused on farmers and farming as a cultural construction 2.Structural Analysis:The interactions between farmers and farming units and other actors such as markets, market agencies, etc. In this sense farmers are also actors that are in the process of negotiation and redesigning relationships 3. Labour process approach. How culture and economic, institutional and technological development as mediated by cultural repertoires are materializing in specific practices.
