Abstract

During solidification, particles (inclusions and equiaxed grains) get pushed or engulfed by the freezing front. The redistribution of particles in the solid is controlled by the forces acting on the particles and the flow in the liquid melt. The present paper describes recent work on determining some of the more important parameters which govern the redistribution of particles during solidification. © 1995, The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan.
