Abstract

This paper presents a modeling approach of university drop-outs, that identifies the student percentages that quit their studies every year. To analyze drop-out problem allows drafting educational policies to prevent it; to know, also, if drop-outs risks is significantly dissimilar for students with parents with different levels of education. Being able to measure this difference, if it exists, adds useful information to this problematic area. The general objective of this paper is to investigate when it is probable that an event such as the university drop-out occurs, the time it takes to occur and the variables or factors that most influence in the occurrence of this event. "Survival analysis" was used to describe the behavior of data corresponding to the time elapsed for an event of interest to happen from its origin until the occurrence of it.
