Abstract

This report defines peritoneal dialysis and describes intermittent peritoneal dialysis and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Current and future health care applications, cost, and access implications are discussed. Peritoneal dialysis has health care quality implications for diabetics, children, and transplant candidates. Possible complications are described. Discussions of the state of the art of this treatment in industry, research, and development and of the current direction of development are included.
