Abstract

Balanced diet, which includes fats and oils, is one of the important factors for attaining and maintaining a healthy life. Numerous clinical studies have shown the detrimental effects of trans- and saturated-fats in the origin and progression of various age-related diseases, such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. This article reviews the role of dietary lipids in various age-related diseases, and discusses the appropriate dietary fat requirements for the prevention of such diseases © 2006 Springer.
