Abstract

Understanding the structure of the bronchial tree and the lung and its gas exchange units will help to clarify the determinants of ventilation, blood flow, and gas exchange within the lung and how we measure them. The authors discuss pulmonary physiology, methods of measuring respiratory function, and what happens to that function when abdominal surgery is performed
