The following chapter attempts to put the tumultuous history of the last 30 years in historical perspective. It focuses on the interrelationships among the four "core disciplines" that comprise the specialty sector of mental health care: psychiatry, psychology, psychiatric social work, and psychiatric nursing. My aim here is to sketch an overview of their mutual relations within the changing mental health care system. The chapter examines the mental health team concept from its inception in the early 1900s through the community mental health movement of the 1960s and 1970s. It is my hope to provide a starting point for a more interprofessional history of the mental health field. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: chapter)
