Abstract

The medical industry is one of the fastest growing segments of the US economy. Increasingly, medical equipment is being used outside a controlled hospital environment. The complexity and increased use of medical equipment in non-hospital environments has made the need for safe, reliable products imperative. Although reliability engineering tools are well established, their application to the medical industry is fairly new. This chapter discusses the reliability tools and standards applicable to the medical equipment industry.
