Abstract

Hemorrhage into the subarachnoid space is a medical emergency that can result in debilitating compression of the brain, and ultimately death. Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is a rare problem, but also a difficult one, since it occurs through the weakening of an artery wall that may have happened some time before the hemorrhage. Advances in diagnostic imaging and treatment have made it a manageable problem. Still, the physician must have a high index of suspicion when any person complains of experiencing the worst headache he or she has ever felt.
