Abstract

This paper focuses on decision points, which are a feature of knowledge-intensive processes; in particular, task selection and data selection are addressed. Task selection occurs when the same business entities can be handled with different tasks, and a choice has to be made; data selection takes place when the entities to be acted on have to be selected from among those available. A notation called Task-Oriented Modeling of business Processes (TOMP) is presented with the help of an example showing a number of decision points. This paper also discusses the impact of decision points on to-do lists. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
