Complications of robotic urologic surgery

Abstract

Pelvic organ prolapse and related pelvic floor disorders are common problems that affect many women. These conditions can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. Accordingly, there has been increased attention to addressing these issues, which has resulted in the development of newer techniques, such as robotic surgery to address pelvic prolapse. As with any therapy, there are risks and benefits to robotic surgery, and it is incumbent upon the surgeon to be familiar with the potential complications in order to thoroughly counsel our patients, implement appropriate strategies to prevent complications, and to address them properly when they occur. This chapter reviews the potential complications of robotic surgery and provides prevention and management strategies for the minimally invasive pelvic floor surgeon.
