Abstract

Echocardiography is daily used diagnostic tool in intensive care units, which can also be used to check the success of the applied therapy. In patients treated with noninvasive ventilation (NIV) echocardiography in many cases serves like the only imaging test to establish the diagnosis of cause of respiratory failure (RF) (pulmonary embolism, cardiogenic edema, pericardial effusion, chronic pulmonary hypertension).
