Abstract

Teaching skills are important especially for prospective teachers who are in the training phase. Based on the observations of researchers as lecturers supporting social studies learning design courses in elementary schools, it is often found in PGSD students of the University of Flores where students are able to make good plans but have difficulty teaching or implementing the learning plans. This study aims to improve the teaching skills of Flores University PGSD students through role playing methods. This type of research is classroom action research. The research subjects were 5th semester PGSD students at the University of Flores who attended social studies learning design classes in elementary schools. Research subjects numbered 62 students. The main data taken by observation techniques then determined the percentage and compared the criteria for each cycle based on the guideline of assessment. While supporting data is taken with documentation techniques and field notes. The procedure of the research is through the stages of planning, stages of action, stages of observation and stages of reflection. The results showed an increase in the teaching skills of PGSD students after applying the role playing method from cycle I to cycle II. The improvement of teaching skills includes five indicators namely strengthening skills, asking skills, using variations, explaining and opening and closing learning. Thus it can be concluded that the role playing method can improve the teaching skills of PGSD University of Flores students
