Abstract

Discusses Freud's many and varied friendships with colleagues and women. Freud's notions of friendship included selflessness and the unconditional acceptance of the mystery of the "other" in his/her unintelligible, unique difference. His concept of friendship extended even to dogs, and he considered his canine friendships to be conflict-free and free of ambivalence. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
