Abstract

This article describes key concepts, framework elements, advantages, and difficulties of building competitive and sustainable tourism destinations. Tourism destination management is an increasingly competitive and complex business involving the coordination of economic, social and geographic elements within a designated tourist area. The metropolitan areas as well as small and medium-sized cities, to redefine its development model stake on the rejuvenation of the tourism and culture in order to attract visitors and tourists. This study aims to enhance the understanding of Destination Management System (DMS) effectiveness and its evaluation. By referring to evaluation tools, the proposed approach explicates how the use of evaluation applications may positively affect the performance of local tourism organizations. It analyzes the needs, wants of stakeholders, and thus provides guidance for the development and assessment of DMSs. The suggested model identifies the aspects (factors and relationships) that need to be considered when evaluating the effectiveness of DMS. This research aims to enhance the understanding of DMS effectiveness evaluation and aims to find out what aspects need to be considered to evaluate the effectiveness of DMS. The analysis reveals that the adoption of DMSs may provide a wide range of advantages and potential benefits of creation of a DMS in Reggio Calabria city.
