Abstract

The aim of this research of to study the effectiveness of chitosan as corrosion coating on Zn, Fe and Al metals in HCl and H 2 SO 4 media. The efficiency of corrosion inhibition was determined using weight loss Method. The effectiveness of corrosion inhibition optimum chitosan solution occurs on Fe metal in 2M HCl media with immersion time 3 days which is 70.83%. While the optimum effectiveness of corrosion inhibition in H 2 SO 4 media occurred on Al, reaching 57.57% with immersion time 2 days and the concentration of 2M H 2 SO 4. Results optical photograph show that the color changes Zn and Fe metal surface when coated with chitosan solution, except on metal Al does not change color. Inhibition efficiency of corrosion on the metal ion is affected by the ions mobility of the metal environment.
