Abstract

Phytoestrogens are plant compounds that have estrogenic and antiestrogenic properties. Experiments made in human and animals showed that phytoestrogens are useful against menopausal symptoms, cardiovacular diseases, osteoporosis, and various cancers (breast, colon and prostate carcinomas). In this review, the classification of phytoestrogens and their effect on women during menopause have been summarized.
