Abstract

How to discover evolutionary homology of nucleotide and amino acid sequences and how to analyze these homologous sequences are discussed. BLAST families are mainly explained in homology search methods. Difference between the biologically true situation and mathematical optimum is stressed in pairwise alignment. CLUSTAL W, MAFFT, and MISHIMA are explained as multiple alignment soft-wares, and genome-wide homology viewers were finally discussed.
