Abstract

A description is given of the process of pea tissue and cell invasion by Rhizobium, and some recent studies on the development of pea root nodules are reviewed. It was concluded that the first phase of tissue colonization by Rhizobium (development of the infection thread) involves reorganized plant cell wall growth, and the second phase (development of the symbiosome) involves reorganized membrane biogenesis.
