Abstract

Typhoid fever is a digestive disease with risk factors for lack of knowledge and inadequate hand washing. Typhoid fever cases in the world reach 11-20 million cases per year. The incidence of Typhoid fever in Asia is 267.6 cases per 100,000 per year. According to the RI Ministry of Health, Typhoid fever in Indonesia reached 41,081 cases. At the Puskesmas Legok there was an increase in typhoid fever visits of 550% in August compared to the average number of visits each month. The purpose of holding this activity is to increase public knowledge about typhoid fever and how to wash hands properly and correctly in the Puskesmas Legok. A community diagnostic approach is used to determine causes and interventions. Collecting data using a mini-survey and identifying the causes of problems through the Blum paradigm. The problem priority is determined from the Delphi non-scoring method. The root cause of the problem is determined using a Fishbone diagram. Intervention by counseling about Typhoid fever, training on proper and proper hand washing as well as distributing leaflets and placing posters. Monitoring uses the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) method and evaluation uses a systems approach. The results obtained at the counseling regarding Typhoid fever along with the pre-test and post-test, obtained a post-test value of > 70 in 85% of respondents. The results of good and correct hand washing activities were found to be 80% washing hands properly and correctly. It was concluded that one of the reasons for the increase in Typhoid fever cases at the Legok Health Center was the lifestyle aspect. After the intervention, there was an increase in knowledge about Typhoid fever and how to wash hands properly and correctly.
