COPERT: A European road transport emission inventory model

Abstract

This paper presents the main characteristics of COPERT 4 software, a European tool to calculate emissions from road transport. The paper presents the main methodological elements of the application, the sources of primary information, the software architecture, and demonstrates an example of application for the Greek national road transport vehicle stock. COPERT 4 is being downloaded by ∼ 100 users per month and is being used in a large number of applications, including air emission inventorying, input to air-quality studies, and academic research. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009.
