Abstract

Induction motors are one of the most popular and widespread electromechanical units commissioned in the industry. This paper includes a comprehensive overview of mechanical and electrical failure mode causes for the induction motor-driven unit. The reliability factor plays an important role in the motor-driven system where a failure will affect the huge loss, especially in power production industry. Hence, to enhance the reliability, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fuzzy FMEA is used to analyze the most important factors responsible for the failure. The possibilities of identifying the fault by different techniques at the incipient level are reported in this paper. This analysis would reduce the risk priority number (RPN) as the detectability would be increased by selecting appropriate diagnostic techniques for induction motor-driven system.
