Abstract

This chapter aims to evaluate the development of the organic Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) system and to examine the influence of the system on organic food safety in Japan. It takes an overview of the 20-year history of organic JAS system in Japan and examines the content of the current system. It also discusses the several challenges faced by the organic JAS system in Japan.
