Abstract

A large number of chemicals illustrative of many structural and use categories are employed in the rubber industry. This chapter surveys the major rubber chemicals as to their utility, production trends, structural characteristics, the nature of potential impurities, toxicology (with primary focus on carcinogenicity and genotoxicity) as well as areas of specific exposure, concern, and epidemiology in the rubber industry. Additionally, the disposal and reclamation of rubber as well as the emission, degradation and analysis of rubber chemicals are considered.
