Abstract

This paper is an attempt to observe the possibilities of climate change at the micro level. Accordingly, a trend analysis of climate change variability and its implications for various issues like the livelihood of people, migration, changes in the cropping pattern, and land use at the local level have been carried out based on meteorological and spatial data and perceptions of the local communities regarding the implications of climate change as well as local environmental changes. The analysis has been carried out at three levels: the Macro level (An overview of climate change), the micro level (implications of Climate change), and finally the micro level implications for the macro level. An examination of meteorological data, while showing no change in climate at the macro level, points to the local-level environmental changes which have led to socioeconomic environmental problems like a greater stress on water availability, changes in cropping pattern and livelihoods. Interestingly, an analysis of the community perceptions regarding these issues shows some conformity with scientific claims.
