Abstract

In this chapter the operative technique for the cemented femoral stem is described in detail in a step-by-step manner. Bone preparation is considered of particular importance to achieve good stem alignment with a non-deficient cement mantle, but also to ensure a sound cement interlock. The three key features, which have a significant influence on stem survival, are the use of an intramedullary plug, thorough bone cleansing with pulsatile lavage and sustained pressurization with a proximal femoral seal. © 2005 Springer Medizin Verlag Heidelberg.
