Abstract

*[Collections of ants were carried out for a 7 month period in Poring, Kinabalu Park, Sabah. In total 46,999 individual ants were collected, in 6 subfamilies. These subfamilies were represented by 52 genera & 125 morphospecies. Percentages of species in the various subfamilies were as follows: Myrmicinae 44.8%, Formicinae 24.8%, Ponerinae 14.4%, Dolichoderinae 13.6%, Dorylinae 1.6%, & Pseudomyrmecinae 0.8%. The 2 genera with the highest number of species were Pheidole & Dolichoderus with 12 each. Ninety-five species were collected by baited pitfall traps & 71 species were collected manually. Using a one way ANOVA no significant difference in the number of species was found between the 2 methods.]
