Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic debilitating inflammatory condition affecting pilosebaceous apocrine unit. The discharging sinuses, recurrent nature and presence of lesions in body folds cause a lot of distress and have a great psychological impact. The affected patients suffer from loss of confidence and poor quality of life. It can have adverse effects on the sexual life of a person. The various factors responsible for creating proinflammatory environment are genetic factors, hormones, high insulin level and smoking. The treatment is challenging and requires a holistic approach with emphasis on managing the psychological burden of the disease. With advent of biologic therapy it is possible to achieve and maintain the remission. The treatment plan should be tailor made according to the stage of the disease and associated comorbid conditions.
