Abstract

The Hidaka Western Greenstone Belt, which trends north-south over 130 kilometers and is several kilometers wide, is disconformably overlain by the Lower Cretaceous Chiroro Formation in the Chiroro area, central Hokkaido. The lithology and age of the Chiroro are described and the nature of the boundary between this formation and the abyssal tholeiite is discussed. The tectonic and palaeogeographic setting of the Hidaka Western Greenstone Belt and the overlying formations is considered. from Authors
