Abstract

Despite of the improvement of clinical management of solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR), infection is still the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among this group of patients. Even though viral, bacterial, and fungal infection are the main agents, the report of parasitic infections has been increased. It might be explained by the increase of migration flow from poor rural areas to large cities and non-endemic countries as well as people traveling to endemic areas. SOTR may acquire an endemic parasitosis by three ways: Transmission with the graft, de novo infection, and activation of dormant infection as a consequence of immunosuppression. In this chapter, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, and scabies will be covered.
