This chapter introduces to the methods for adding and multiplying binary numbers. The topic is developed by first considering the binary representation of unsigned numbers (which are the easiest to understand), and then binary representation of signed numbers and fractions (the hardest to understand) are concerned. Binary arithmetic is essential in all digital computers and in many other types of digital systems. To understand digital systems, the basics of binary addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division must be known.
