Abstract

Orthopaedic surgeons care for patients with problems related to muscles, bones and joints. Treatment is indicated to improve function, relieve pain, and prevent contractures. Management may include medications, injections, physical and occupational therapy, bracing, and surgery. Providing the best possible care for persons with disabilities requires the engagement of the family, a multidisciplinary team of medical providers, and tailoring the approach for treatment of orthopaedic issues to each unique individual.
