Abstract

One of the techniques of thermomechanical analysis, described earlier in chapter 7, involves measurement of the change of a dimension of the sample as the load on the sample is increased, while the temperature is held constant. This is effectively the determination of a stress-strain curve for the sample. The load is related to the applied stress (force/area) and the change in dimension is related to the strain (elongation/original length).
