Abstract

The generic term, calcium carbonate, is the official chemical designation for a wide variety of physically different materials. In some applications, including paper, the physical contribution is the main determinant of suitability. The chemical composition is of secondary or minor importance. For this reason, most of the information presented in this paper deals with the physical rather than the chemical attributes of the various calcium carbonates discussed.
