This chapter introduces parsing using phrase-structure rules and grammars. It uses the Definite Clause Grammar (DCG) notation (Pereira and Warren 1980) Pereira, F.C.N.Warren, D.H.D., which is a feature of virtually all Prologs. The DCG notation enables us to transcribe a set of phrase-structure rules directly into a Prolog program.
