Abstract

The author's passion and sensitivity are evident throughout Communication in Palliative Care. The book is based largely on the author's extensive experience as a nurse working with patients and families, and the subtitle is accurate in stating that it offers clear practical advice based on authentic case studies. Each case study is clearly described and is indeed supplemented by practical advice. Many of them are thought-provoking. The book also utilizes the notion of storytelling to its maximum, taking the reader through the basic aspects of developing an approach to communication by talking about relationships and building up to and discussing assessment skills, diagnosis , treatment and the psychosocial impact of illness, poor prognosis, and advanced care planning.
