Abstract

Most studies of the physiology of oligochaete earthworms have involved terrestrial species, and we know more about the physiology of earthworms than of many other aspects of their biology. The reader is referred to a standard text, The Physiology of Earthworms by M. S. Laverack (1963), for a more detailed treatment of earthworm physiology than is possible within the constraints in the present revision of this book.
