Abstract

Pedometrics is the use of quantitative methods for the study of soil distribution and genesis. Pedometrics is a branch of soil science that studies soil as a sustainable resource and addresses its problems from the perspective of emerging quantitative approaches. Pedometrics also deals with utilizing modern analytic tools to quantify soil properties rapidly over space and time. Key areas of research discussed in this article include numerical soil classification, geostatistics, sampling, proximal soil sensing, and modeling the formation of soil in the landscape.
